Something Else Sunday: Giving Back

It’s getting to be that giving time of the year! Feeling generous but don’t know what to do about it? I have some suggestions!

Recently The Lingerie Addict posted about some great underthings-related companies that donate some of their proceeds to wonderful charities. Go check out the link and see how you can help fight human trafficking, provide clothing and books to children in need, and fund anti-bullying measures (among others) by purchasing some great products.

I also want to mention a few of my personal favorite non-profits:

Planned Parenthood. They offer a myriad of healthcare services to women (and men! ) who, oftentimes, are unable to access any other provider. And reproductive health is so, so important. (Let’s not turn the comment section into an abortion debate, okay guys? This is not the place.)

Scarleteen. From their website:
” Scarleteen is an independent, grassroots sexuality education and support organization and website. Founded in 1998, Scarleteen.com is visited by around three-quarters of a million diverse people each month worldwide, most between the ages of 15 and 25. It is the highest-ranked website for sex education and sexuality advice online and has held that rank through most of its tenure.”
Scarleteen is an amazing resource for anyone seeking information about sexual health. Not only do they offer information about the mechanics of sex, they educate young people about the emotional aspects, too. And they don’t shy away from potentially sticky subjects like abortion, LBGT issues, and sexual assault. Definitely a more comprehensive sex ed than I received from my schools or my parents, that’s for sure. They depend on donations to keep doing the great work that they do.

Or maybe you aren’t the type of person who gives to organizations. Maybe you’re more the “pay it forward” type. You’ve probably seen the news stories about the teenage girl whose untimely passing inspired the #AJO phenomenon. It originated in the city I live in, and it’s so wonderfully heartwarming to see my community giving to each other so selflessly. It’s amazing to see it spread around the world.

So give! If you don’t like any of the organizations I’ve highlighted then find one you do like. And pay it forward whenever you can.
